Trail and Tour Maps
- The Busch Area provides several walking trails and an auto tour for your
enjoyment. Trails are indicated on the map. Self-guiding brochures are available
at area headquarters and at the start of some trails.
- The Busch Auto Tour is an 8.7-mile driving tour of the Busch Area. You can
pick up an auto tour brochure at area headquarters or at bulletin boards in
the main parking lot. During your auto tour of the area, you may want to stop
and walk the following trails:
- The Pine Trail is 0.2-mile foot trail that begins at Auto Tour Station 4.
You can enjoy the pleasing sights, sounds, and smells of a pine plantation
on this trail.
- The Dardenne Creek Trail is a 0.4 mile loop trail located at the northeast
corner of Lake 33. This trail features a streambank stabilization project
and streamside habitat.
- The Woodland Trail is a 0.2-mile loop foot trail located near Lake 33 on
Road C at Auto Tour Station 7. This trail demonstrates the benefits of oak-hickory
forests to people and wildlife.
- The Wildlife Management Trail is 0.4 mile loop foot trail located on Road
C near Lake 21 at Auto Tour Station 8. During your walk, you will observe
various habitat management practices, including brush piles, amphibian ponds,
and feathered forest edges, designed to benefit wildlife.
- The Prairie Trail is a 0.2 mile loop foot trail located on Road C, west
of Lake 15 at Auto Tour Station 10. This trail acquaints you with the types
and values of native grasses and prairie forbs. You may be interested in planting
some of these native plants on your own land.
- The Fallen Oak Nature Trail is a 0.7 mile loop foot trail located at the
picnic area near the headquarters at Auto Tour Station 12. This asphalt trail
highlights a variety of habitats, a bird feeding station, tree identification,
and viewing opportunities.
- The Busch Hiking/Biking Trail is 3.2 mile loop trail located of Road B.
The trail takes you over a dam on Lake 19 and past agricultural fields. A
small segment of this trail crosses roads that are open to vehicles.
