Johnson's Shut-Ins Dolomite Glade Natural Area

An 18-acre portion of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, parts of Section 20, T33N, R2E, Johnson's Shut-Ins 7.5 min. topographic map. Designated November 26, 1984.

Natural Features--A 4-acre dolomite glade of the Davis rock formation located on a forested southwest-facing slope. Dolomite glades are rare in the St. Francois Mountains. This is the only dolomite glade represented from the St. Francois Mountains Section of the Ozark Natural Division. The glade was part of a floristic study conducted at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in 1977 by Paul Nelson. Several plants noted only on the glade, which contribute to the park's 900 plant species, include Missouri evening primrose, Englemann's adder's tongue fern and sandwort. The area is owned by the Department of Natural Resources. For further information contact the Park Superintendent, Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, Middlebrook, MO 63656, phone 573/546-2450.
