Cattails (Typha latifolia)

A 10-acre area on private land about 10 miles northeast of Mountain View in the SE1/4, NW1/4 and NE/14, SE1/4 of Section 34, T28N, R6W, JamUp Cave 7.5 min. topographic map. Access is by landowners' permission. Designated March 7, 1986.

Natural Features

A pond marsh and pond shrub swamp in a natural sinkhole in the Lower Ozarks Section of the Ozark Natural Division. Thick stands of hibiscus occupy the shallow areas of the pond shrub swamp. Vegetation of the pond marsh includes patches of cattails and three-way sedge. Gilmore Pond Natural Area is owned and managed by the Greenwood Forest Association.
