Buffalo at East Drywood Creek, Prairie State Park
A 50-acre area located along one mile of East Drywood Creek in Prairie State Park in the NE1/4 of Section 21, and the SE1/4 of Section 16, T32N, R33W, Liberal 7.5 min. topographic map. Designated January 3, 1986.
Natural Features
One mile of high quality prairie headwaters stream of the Osage Plains Natural Division having rock bottom riffles and deep pools, and bordering scenic sandstone ledges. Dry and dry-mesic prairie occur on moderate slopes adjacent to the stream, while mesic prairie dominates the stream terraces. Several state-listed species occur within the area including northern harrier, Mississippi kite, Henslow's sparrow, yellow-headed blackbird, greater prairie chicken and upland sandpiper.
