Nehai Tonkayea Prairie Natural Area
A 90-acre area on private land about 12 miles southeast of Marceline, in Sections 1 and 12, T55N, R18W, Bynumville 7.5 min. topographic map. Access is by landowner's permission. Designated January 19, 1988.
Natural Features--A dry-mesic prairie of the Grand River Section of the Glaciated Plains Natural Division. It is one of only a few prairies remaining on the Kansan glacial till plain. Characteristic plants include big bluestem, little bluestem and Indian grass. Nehai Tonkayea Prairie is owned and managed by the Nehai Property Owners Association.
