Burr Oak Woods Natural Area

A 33-acre portion of the 1,071-acre Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs about one mile north of I-70 in Section 23, T49N, R31W, Blue Springs 7.5 min. topographic map. Access from Hwy 7 and then to the Bethany Falls Trail. Designated August 28, 1981.

Natural Features--Mature and old-growth upland forest and Bethany Falls limestone exposures in the Western Section of the Glaciated Plains Natural Division. An old chinquapin oak stand dominates the dry, rocky upper slopes. Rich woods with red and white oak, basswood, Kentucky coffee tree and black walnut occupies a lower north-facing slope. All of Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area is a wildlife refuge. Collecting of plants and animals is prohibited.
