Prairie Slough Natural Area

A 406-acre portion of the 574-acre Prairie Slough Conservation Area, five miles northeast of Elsberry off Hwy P in Sections 1, 2 and 12, T52N, R2E, Hamburg, IL, 7.5 min. topographic map. Designated March 13, 1987.

Natural Features--A wet-mesic bottomland forest, wet bottomland forest and shrub swamp with backwater sloughs of the Upper Mississippi River Section of the Big Rivers Natural Division. The federally threatened bald eagle uses the area as a winter habitat. Prairie Slough Natural Area is owned and managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
