Elmslie Forest Natural Area

A 100-acre area in Elmslie Memorial Conservation Area, six miles north of Monroe City in Section 12, T57N, R8W, Hunnewell and Monroe City 7.5 min. topographic maps. Access is from a county road. Designated December 20, 1971.

Natural Features--Upland forests along the South Fork of the North River in the Eastern Section of the Glaciated Plains Natural Division. Several upland forest communities with glade openings provide a high native plant diversity. Some of the dominant trees are post, white and northern red oak. Bottomland forest occurs along the river and dry, open forest communities occur where the soil is shallow and rocky. Elmslie Forest Natural Area is owned by the Department of Conservation.
