Snow Goose Hunting Opportunities
Are you interested in hunting Snow Geese in Northwest Missouri? If so you are not alone. Many waterfowl hunters across Missouri, and from all over the mid-west find snow goose hunting in this area to be some of the best to be found.
Snow goose hunting during the Conservation Order centers around three many regions in NW Missouri. One of these regions is located approximately 120 miles northeast of Kansas City, in particular around the Swan Lake Refuge, Fountain Grove Conservation Area and the Grand Pass CAs. A second region is located approximately 45 miles north of Kansas City near the Pony Express Conservation Area and the Corps of Engineer's Smithville Reservoir. The third region is located approximately 45 miles north of St. Joseph near the Squaw Creek Refuge and the Bob Brown Conservation Area. Large concentrations of snow geese can be found near these locations as the snow geese migrate north each spring.
Hunting is permitted on most of the MDC Conservation areas listed in the previous paragraph, portions of Swan Lake NWR and on Smithville Reservoir but there are special regulations that apply and these regulations may vary between areas. Select an area and you will find comments regarding hunting procedures, up to date goose population numbers and other information of interest.
Hunters may also find hunting areas on private land near these areas, but permission from landowners must be obtained prior to hunting (even if the land is not posted). Most landowners will allow hunting as long as hunters are courteous and respectful of the landowner's property.
Even though some of the hunting methods and permit requirements are more liberal during the Conservation Order there are still regulations and Missouri does require permits for some hunters. To find out more about these regulations and permit requirements see the link to regulations on this page.
