Acarospora glaucocarpa - cited from St. Louis Co. by Berry (1937) [as A. glaucocarpa var. verrucosa]; this report is the basis for the literature report in Gier & Kendrick (1972) [as var. verrucosa]. The specimen on which these reports are based, Berry 605, supposedly at US, could not be located. Three Missouri collections determined by Berry as A. glaucocarpa var. verrucosa, Berry 247 (F), Boone Co., and Hubricht B103 and B104 (both US), both from Franklin Co., are A. schleicheri. Gier & Kendrick (1972) also erroneously attribute a literature report of the typical variety to Berry (1937), and cite a specimen [as var. verrucosa] from Vernon Co. The specimen on which the Vernon Co. report is based, Kendrick s.n. 20 March 1971 (MCJ 11043), is Aspicilia contorta.

Arthopyrenia sp. - cited from the Salt River basin by MBG (1974a, 1974b) and Seaward (1978). Taxonomic revisions within this group render the disposition of this report even to genus impossible without seeing the specimen.
Arthopyrenia lapponina - reported from Emma by Fink (1900) [as Pyrenula punctiformis var. fallax], and from Missouri by Fink (1935) [as Polyblastiopsis fallax]. These reports presumably form the basis for the literature reports by Gier & Jones (1954) and Gier & Kendrick (1972) [both, inexplicably, as Pannaria fallax], although the latter paper mistakenly attributes the report to Nelson (1911). These reports are presumably based on 2 specimens at MICH, both originally determined as Pyrenula punctiformis var. fallax: Demetrio 40 (1898) is referable to Mycoglaena meridionalis and Demetrio 62 (1900) is referable to Mycoglaena quercicola.
Arthopyrenia punctiformis - reported from Missouri by Fink (1910, 1935); these reports presumably are the basis for the literature reports by Gier & Jones (1954) and Gier & Kendrick (1972), although the latter reference mistakenly attributes the citation to Fink (1900). This taxon was also cited from Pike Co. by Pech (1866) [as Verrucaria punctiformis]. No confirming specimens have been located, and local reports are almost certainly based on misidentifications.
Arthopyrenia willeyana
Anisomeridium nyssaegenum
ARTHOTHELIUM A. Massal.
Arthothelium sp.
Wetmore (1992a): Taney Co.
Arthothelium hallii - cited by Berry (1937) from St. Louis Co.; this forms the basis for the literature report in Gier & Kendrick (1972). The specimen on which these reports are apparently based, Hubricht 815 (F)- originally determined by Berry - is a nonlichenized fungus. The only other Berry determination of this taxon located, Hubricht B121 (US), Franklin Co., is also nonlichenized.
Arthothelium ruanum - cited from Taney Co. by Wetmore (1992a), but a specimen originally determined as this species from the study area, Wetmore 69119 (NY), is Mycoporum pycnocarpoides.

Wetmore (1992a): Taney Co.
Aspicilia calcarea (L.) Mudd
Ladd (1996): Phelps Co. Note: this species is also cited Boone Co. by Berry (1936), but the specimen on which this report is based, Berry 330B (UMO), is L. valesiaca.
Aspicilia cinerea (L.) Körb.
Ladd (1996): Phelps Co.
Wetmore (1992a): Taney Co.
Aspicilia contorta (Hoffm.) Kremp.
Gier & Jones (1954): Clay Co. [as Lecanora contorta].
Gier & Kendrick (1972): Clay Co., also literature report [as Lecanora contorta].
Ladd (1996): Phelps Co.
Wetmore (1992a): Taney Co. See Acarospora glaucocarpa.
Aspicilia laevata reported from Missouri by Fink (1935) [as Lecanora laevata] and a literature report by Gier & Jones (1954) [as Lecanora "laevigata"]. Gier & Kendrick (1972) exclude what they cite as the Engelmann Botanical Club (1911) [= Nelson (1911)] report of Lecanora "laevigata", rejecting it as a typographical error or unconfirmed synonym, but Nelson (1911) does not mention of any Lecanora. Gier & Kendrick (1972) do not mention the undocumented report in Gier & Jones (1954). If reference to a Missouri specimen of L. "laevigata" exists in the literature, it is likely to be a misspelled reference to L. laevata, and perhaps best referred to the related Aspicilia verrucigera.
