Microthelia micula [image of equals Kirschsteiniothelia aethiops (Berk. & M. A. Curtis) D. Hawksw.] - cited from Missouri by Fink (1935) and a literature report by Gier & Jones (1954). Gier & Kendrick (1972) mistakenly attribute a literature report to Nelson (1911). Esslinger & Egan (1995) exclude this saprophytic genus from their checklist.

Microthelia thelena [image of equals Mycomicrothelia thelena (Ach.) D. Hawksw.] - this taxon is cited from Emma, Missouri by Fink (1900), and "Missouri" by Fink (1910) [both as Pyrenula thelena]; these reports form the basis for the literature record in Gier & Kendrick (1972). According to Esslinger & Egan (1995), this taxon does not occur in North America.
