The Missouri Department of Conservation is looking for volunteers to participate in summer turkey brood counts. The information is used by biologists for evaluating annual wild turkey reproduction. This data is used in the predictions for spring and fall turkey hunting, as well as indicators for wild turkey population management and season recommendations. Those individuals who spend a large amount of time in the outdoors or traveling along rural roadways within Missouri during the months of June, July, and August are especially encouraged to lend their help in collecting data and increasing the Departments ability to manage our wild turkey resource. If you choose to participate, brood survey cards, with instructions, will be mailed to your house in late May, June and July. After receipt of the cards, just record your observations until the end of the designated month and then drop them in the mail. All return postage and addressing is taken care of for you.
To participate, please email Mike Hubbard with your name and mailing address and place BROOD SURVEY in the subject line.
If you received a brood survey card during the summer of 2001, you do not need to reply to this request. You will automatically receive brood survey cards in the summer of 2002. Thanks in advance for helping to manage one of Missouris greatest wildlife resources, the wild turkey.
