General news
The Conservation Commission met August 16 at the Chamber of Commerce office in Kennett, the open meeting beginning at10:15 a.m. All Commissioners were present:
John Powell, Rolla, Chairman
Ronald J. Stites, Plattsburg, Vice Chairman
Randy Herzog, St. Joseph, Secretary
Anita B. Gorman, Kansas City, Member
The Commission voted 4-0 in open session to rescind actions approved June 19 and July 19, which had authorized the Director to issue mineral prospecting permits. The next meeting was set for September 20 in Kansas City.
Hearings
Thomas Kruzen, Mountain View, and Ms. Kazie Perkins, Willow Springs, represented the Ozark River Keepers Network by discussing possible effects of lead exploration/extraction in the watersheds of the Current, Jack's Fork and Eleven Point Rivers.
Ken Midkiff, Columbia, Program Director of the Ozark Chapter of the Sierra Club, discussed the public participation process for policy setting and implementation.

The Commission announced plans to honor former Commission members as follows:
Regulations
The Commission set 1996-97 waterfowl seasons and limits, subject to final federal approval. Waterfowl zones will remain the same as the past five years. Special dates for youth-only duck hunts were also approved. Shooting hours will be one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
Additional information on regulations decisions will be published in All Outdoors, and complete waterfowl details will be found in the Migratory Bird Hunting Digest, to be available from permit vendors and MDC offices in early October.

DUCKS AND COOTS
LIMITS: Five ducks daily, with no more than four mallards (no more than one female),
two wood ducks, two redheads, one pintail, one black duck, one hooded merganser or
one canvasback. Daily bag for coots is 15.

South Zone - Nov. 23-Jan. 11.

LIMITS: The daily bag limits include no more than 10 blue, snow or Ross' geese;
two Canada geese; two brant; and two white-fronted geese.

Land Acquisitions
The Commission acquires land only from willing sellers, based on identified conservation needs and current property value appraisals. Payments in-lieu-of-taxes are made annually to compensate local governments and schools for lost revenues. Approval was given the following acquisitions:
