News of the February 2, 2001 Conservation Commission meeting

The Conservation Commission met February 2 at Marriott's Tan-Tar-A Resort,
Osage Beach. Commissioners present were:
Randy Herzog, St. Joseph
Ronald J. Stites, Plattsburg
Anita B. Gorman, Kansas City
Howard L. Wood, Bonne Terre
The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for March 29-30, 2001,
at The Country Club Hotel, Osage Beach, Missouri.
PRESENTATIONS
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on
the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request
to Director, Department of Conservation, P. O. Box 180, Jefferson City MO
65102-0180, or FAX to (573) 751-4467, at least 10 working days before the
meeting date. The Commission heard the following presentations:
- Laura H. Hoffstetter, Town & Country, Missouri - expressed concern
about the City of Town & Country's deer relocation program.
- Adolphus Busch and Wayne Freeman, Great Rivers Land Trust - discussed
issues relating to the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
- David Erickson presented special awards from the Upper Mississippi River/Great
Lakes Joint Venture to Adolphus Busch and Jim Tom Blair, IV.
- Volunteer Service Award to Bob Ball for 2,000 hours of volunteer service
at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.
- Update on Missouri River L-15 Levee.
- Update on water issues in the Upper Osage River Basin.
- Update on Nodaway Valley Conservation Area construction and management
plans.
- Progress Report on Grow Native! Program.
ADMINISTRATION: The Commission also took the following action:
- Authorized purchasing 82.7 acres in Boone County as addition to Hart Creek
Conservation Area.
- Authorized transfer, at no cost, approximately 2.06 acres of Boeckman
Bridge Access to Miller County Commission for bridge replacement.
- Accepted schedule for citizen advisory committee to address issues that
must be resolved before reconsideration of elk reintroduction.
- Approved Mountain Lion Response Guidelines.
