The Conservation Commission met November 1 at the Department's Springfield
Conservation Nature Center in Springfield, Missouri. Commissioners present
were:

Howard L. Wood, Bonne Terre
Stephen C. Bradford, Cape Girardeau
Cynthia Metcalfe, St. Louis
The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for December
14, 2001, at the Department's Central Office in Jefferson City, Missouri.
PRESENTATION:
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed
on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written
request to Director, Department of Conservation, P. O. Box 180, Jefferson
City MO 65102-0180, or FAX to (573) 751-4467, at least 10 working
days before the meeting date. The Commission heard the following presentations:
11:00 a.m.Award given to the American Land Conservancy from the Upper
Mississippi River/Great Lakes Joint Venture.
ADMINISTRATION: The Commission also took the following
action:
- Authorized sale to the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission
approximately 46.01 acres for right-of-way, 0.09 acres for permanent
drainage easement and 6.59 acres for underground waterline easement
at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area, St. Charles County.
- Authorized transfer to the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission
approximately 0.19 acres of permanent right-of-way and 0.44 acre temporary
construction easement at Duck Creek Conservation Area, Bollinger County.
- Authorized presentation of a Special Achievement Award at a future
meeting to John Murphy, Private Land Conservationist, for providing
emergency assistance for a motor vehicle accident.
- Authorized changing the name of the 240-acre Tingler Lake Conservation
Area in Howell County to Tingler Prairie Conservation Area.
- Authorized adoption of the Brandon Key Program Area in Manitoba as
the next effort in the Department's continuing partnership with Ducks
Unlimited to support bird habitat conservation in prairie Canada.
- Authorized naming the area west of the Nodaway River at Nodaway Valley
Conservation Area the "Ronald J. Stites Wetland Unit" and
the area east of Nodaway River the "Randy Herzog Wetland Unit,"
in honor of Commissioners Emeriti Stites and Herzog. And further, authorized
the naming of the area north of the County Road bisecting the White
River Trace Conservation Area the "John Powell Quail Management
Unit," in honor of Commissioner Emeritus Powell.
- Revoked all hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for a specified
period of time for multiple violations of Missouri Wildlife Code
regulations for the following individuals: Brian K. Baker, Dudley-one
year; Paul N. Counts, Bragg City-one year; David W. Harris, Edgar Springs-one
year; Jason L. Hayward, Keytesville-four additional years (2nd
suspension); William M. Holcomb, Louisiana-five additional years (2nd
suspension); Howard A. Ruggles, Unionville-one year; James Z. Trankler,
Jackson-one year; Chad A. Butler, Rich Hill-four years; and Terry Phelps,
Hannibal-one year.
