| The Conservation Commission met July 31 at the Conservation
Department Headquarters, Jefferson City, Missouri. Commissioners present
were:

The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Sept. 4 at
Mexico, Mo.
PRESENTATION:
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed
on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written
request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson
City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before
the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Aug. 20.
REGULATIONS:
The Commission accepted the report of the Regulation Committee, highlights
include:
- Opening Wig Wam Access in Morgan County to deer hunting by archery
methods or shotgun only.
- Adding the American eel and white sucker to Missouri's approved aquatic
species list.
- Establishing an urban winter trout fishery at Cosmo-Bethel Lake, Columbia.
- Amending trapping regulations regarding methods and seasons.
- Extending the closing date of squirrel hunting season from Jan. 15
to Feb. 15, effective in the 2004-2005 hunting season.
- Adding a provision allowing the use of electronic calls to pursue
and take crows or furbearers at night, but without the use of artificial
lights or night-vision equipment, effective in the 2004-2005 hunting
season.
In other action, the Commission:
- Approved a strategic plan.
- Approved the sale and replacement of a Cessna 210 airplane for resource
management use.
- Voted to suspend or revoke all hunting and fishing privileges of two
Missourians and 236 residents of other states in accordance with the
terms of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact. Missourians whose
privileges were suspended are:
Clifford Lawing, West Plains, life all privileges
John Lichtenegger, Jackson, 2 years all privileges
- Voted to suspend or revoke all hunting and fishing privileges of five
Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges
were suspended are:
Frank D. Anderson, Stockton, 5 years
Jerry W. Ferguson, Gallatin, 1 year
Michael L. Holcomb, Bowling Green, 4 years
Tom Jensen, Langdon, 1 year
Gary D. Scott Jr., Independence, 1 year
- Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting and fishing privileges
of 38 Missouri residents who are not in compliance with applicable child
support laws.
- Voted to suspend the hunting privileges of Jeffrey H. Riehm, Greenfield,
Mo., for two years for inflicting injury on another person by firearm
while hunting. Riehm will be required to complete a hunter education
training course before his hunting privileges are restored.
ADMINISTRATION:
The Commission held a swearing-in ceremony for new Commissioner Lowell
Mohler and elected officers for the new fiscal year.
The Commission presented a Special Achievement Award to Wildlife Biologist
Chris Newbold, Columbia, for saving the life of a woman who fell through
the ice at Little Dixie Lake Feb. 28
The Commission presented Volunteer Service Awards to Sara Rittman, Kay
Kasiske, Doris Linhardt and Judith Lambayan. All four have performed 2,000
hours of service as volunteer naturalists at Runge Conservation Nature
Center, Jefferson City. Each of the four also has been selected as volunteer
naturalist of the year, an award presented by their fellow volunteers
to recognize their outstanding service and selfless contributions.
The Commission also presented service awards to the following employees.
30 years: Debra Hull, Jefferson City; Doug Rainey, Memphis; Donald
Smith, Eminence.
25 years: Dennis Case, Lecoma; Larry Graham and Richard Thom, Jefferson
City; Edward Welch, Lenox; Robert Stephens, Eolia; Leroy Light, Salem;
Gary Flockhart, Sedalia; Keith Peck, Cassville; Bruce Palmer, Jefferson
City; Dan Witter, Holts Summit; Kenneth Barncord, Grain Valley; William
Campbell, Jr., Lamar; Jack Cramer, Camdenton; Randall Kriegel, Mexico;
