The Conservation Commission met the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
headquarters in Van Buren. Commissioners present were:

The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Nov. 13 in Caruthersville.
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the
agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director,
Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX
573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline
for the next meeting is Oct. 29, 2003.
PRESENTATIONS:
The Commission heard the following presentations:
- Jim Crest, Sikeston spoke to the Commission regarding Canada goose hunting
season in the Southern Zone.
- The Commission presented a Volunteer Service Award to Nancy Ryan for 2,000
hours of volunteer work at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.
REGULATIONS:
The Commission accepted the report of the Regulations Committee and approved:
- A new statewide trout management plan
- Development of future deer hunting regulations that will ensure effective
deer management and better meet the needs of hunters and landowners
- Adding the papershell crayfish to the state's Approved Aquatic Species
List
- Amending the definition of flies and other bait for fishing
- Allowing resident landowners born before Jan. 1, 1967 to accompany youth
deer and turkey hunters on the landowners' property without completion of
hunter education certification
ADMINISTRATION:
The Commission also took the following action:
- Approved entering into a contract with the low bidder for construction
of an entrance road, parking lot, boat ramp and related work at Pelican Island
Access in St. Louis County.
- Approved the trade of .15 acres of Hart Creek Conservation Area in Boone
County for .5 acres of land as an addition to Hart Creek CA.
- Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting and fishing privileges
of 47 Missouri residents who are not in compliance with applicable child
support laws.
- Voted to suspend or revoke all hunting and fishing privileges of three
Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were

- Voted to suspend or revoke Missouri hunting and fishing privileges
of 88 residents of other states in accordance with the terms of the Interstate
Wildlife Violator Compact.
- Voted to suspend or revoke all hunting privileges
of two individuals for two years for inflicting injury to another person
in firearms-related hunting
incidents.
