The Conservation Commission met Oct. 6-7 in the Searcy Building at Montauk State Park southwest of Salem on Highway 119

The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Nov. 15-16 at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Missouri.
PRESENTATION:
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Nov. 1.
- The Commission received a presentation from Tony R. Parks, president of Current River Pole, LLC, about new markets for southern yellow pine in Missouri.
- The Commission presented a Special Achievement Award to Conservation Agent Mike Terhune, Stockton, for his role in preventing a child's abduction.
- The Commission presented Special Achievement Awards to Forest Nursery Supervisor Gregory A. Hoss, Rolla, and resource assistants Joe D. Dillard and Ellen L. Mares, Licking, for their role in saving the life of a coworker who suffered a heart attack.
REGULATIONS:
- The Commission approved recommendations from the Regulations Committee for changes in the 2006 Wildlife Code. Those changes include:
- Established a winter catch-and-release trout fishing program on Kiwanis Lake in Mexico, Mo.
- Amended the Wildlife Code by creating privileges and obligations of a Fur Handlers' Permit to allow possession of raw fur beyond March 1.
ADMINISTRATION:
The Commission took the following action:
- Authorized entering into a contract with Branco Enterprises, Inc. of Neosho for the construction of the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery Upgrade Project in Taney County at an estimated cost of $5,696,000 for the base bid and Alternate No. 1, plus a contingency fund of $285,000 for a total of $5,981,000.
MISCELLANEOUS:
- Approved the purchase of 20 acres as an addition to the Ralph and Martha Perry Conservation Area (CA) in Johnson County.
- Approved the purchase of 154 acres as an addition to Settle's Ford CA in Bates and Cass counties.
- Approved the sale of approximately 1,301,102 board feet of timber on Rocky Creek CA in Shannon County.
- Approved the designation of Chariton River Hills in Macon County as a Missouri Natural Area.
- Approved a new Zebra Mussel Prevention Policy in the Area & Resource Management Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Approved a revised Fire Management Policy in the Area & Resource Management Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of nine Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were suspended are:

- Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting and fishing privileges of 108 Missouri residents and one nonresident who are not in compliance with applicable child support laws.
- Suspended all hunting privileges of one Missouri resident for two years
