The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Jan. 26 and 27 in Marshall.
PRESENTATIONS:
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Jan. 11.
The Commission received presentations from:
- Denny Ballard, Coordinator of the Missouri Bowhunting Council, about ways to work toward common goals.
- Jef Hodges, Regional Director of Quail Unlimited, who presented a proposal to create a habitat stamp for long-term funding of quail and other grassland bird projects in Missouri.
- James F. Morris, Springfield, who spoke about river otters' effect on smallmouth bass in the Niangua River.
- Dr. and Mrs. Harry Berrier, Columbia, who presented a financial gift.
The Commission presented the Conservation Department Clerical Employee of the Year Award to Yvonne Heerlein, office manager at St. Joseph.
The Commission presented the following service awards:
- 30 year - Carolyn Auckley, Jefferson City; Bill McGuire, Jefferson City; Kurt Kysar, Branson; Ralph McNair, Strafford; and James Loveless, Columbia.
- 25 year - John Smith, California; Betty Ream, Sedalia; Thomas Westhoff, Montgomery City; Robert Farr, Warsaw; Mitch Hoover, Lathrop; Matthew Wolken, Greentop; Larry Yamnitz, Jefferson City; Roger Peecher, Pollock; Thomas Leifield, St. Charles.
REGULATIONS:
The Commission approved:
2006 turkey hunting regulations, including:
- Spring season April 24 through May 14.
- Youth season April 8 and 9.
- Fall season Oct. 1 through 31.
Other turkey hunting regulations remain unchanged from 2005.
- A Wildlife Code provision prohibiting computer-assisted hunting in locations removed from the location of the hunter.
ADMINISTRATION:
The Commission approved:
- A recommendation to convey the 2-acre Town Hole Access in McDonald County to the City of Anderson for use as a city park and public access to Indian Creek.
- A recommendation to accept a donation of 14.9 acres as an addition to Hunnewell Access in Shelby County.
- A recommendation to purchase 140 acres in Vernon County as an addition to the August A. Busch, Jr., Memorial Wetlands at Four Rivers Conservation Area (CA).
- A recommendation to accept as a donation 80 acres in Carroll County to be named the Nashan CA.
- A recommendation to accept a donation of 14.48 acres in Vernon County as an addition to the August A. Busch, Jr., Memorial Wetlands at Four Rivers CA.
- A recommendation to accept a donation of 320 acres in Greene County to be named the Dale Sare CA.
- A recommendation to advertise and sell an estimated 1,719,083 board feet of timber on 630 acres of Angeline CA in Shannon County.
- A recommendation for approval of 2005 Strategic Plan.
- A recommendation to modify the payment schedule for the $2 million challenge grant for the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center in Joplin.
- Suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of eight Missouri residents and two nonresidents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were suspended are:
