The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Feb. 1 and 2 in Kirksville.
PRESENTATIONS
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Jan. 18.
The Commission received presentations from:
- James F. Morris, Springfield, regarding otter populations and impact on smallmouth bass in the Niangua River
- Invasive Species Coordinator Brian Canaday regarding exotic and invasive species Dr. Harry and Mrs. Lina Berrier, Columbia, regarding a donation to the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation.
- The Commission also made the following presentations: Master Conservationist Awards to Dr. Harry Berrier, Mrs. Lina Berrier and Mrs. Pat Jones
- The Clerical Employee of the Year Award to Kansas City Regional Office Manager Shirl Quick
- A Special Achievement Award to Franklin County Conservation Agent Todd Wright
- Outstanding Management Evaluation Awards to Area Biologist Travis Dinsdale, Private Land Program Supervisor Bill White and NRCS Wildlife Resource Conservationist Paul Frese.
- A Workforce Diversity Award to Fisheries Management Biologist Chris Kennedy.

REGULATIONS
The Commission set 2007 spring turkey hunting regulations, including season dates of April 16 through May 6. The youth spring turkey season will be March 31 and April 1, a week earlier than usual to avoid the Easter weekend. The fall firearms turkey season will be Oct. 1 through 31. Other spring turkey hunting regulations remain unchanged from 2006.
ADMINISTRATION
The Commission took the following actions:
- Approved entering into a contract with Haan Constructors, LLC of Winona for Phase 2 construction at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center Renovation Project in Shannon County. The company submitted the low bid of $1,090,410.
- Approved accepting a donation of approximately 118 acres in Pemiscot County.
- Approved the purchase of 437 acres in Phelps County to be known as the Bohigian Conservation Area (CA). (The Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation's Stream Stewardship Trust Fund and other partners have provided funds representing more than 60 percent of the purchase price.)
- Approved the purchase of an 80-acre inholding in Reynolds County as an addition to Riverside CA.
- Approved the purchase of 40 acres in Jefferson County as an addition to LaBarque Creek CA.
- Approved the purchase of 2 acres in Shannon County as an addition to Angeline CA.
- Approved advertising the sale of an estimated 809,944 board feet of timber on Rocky Creek CA in Shannon County.
- Approved the Conservation Department's 2005-2006 Annual Report.
- Suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of 22 Missouri residents and three nonresident for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were suspended are:

- Suspended the hunting and fishing privileges of 99 nonresidents in accordance with the terms of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact.
