The Conservation Commission met Nov. 1 and 2 at the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center, 201 W. Riviera Drive, Joplin.

The Conservation Commission set its next meeting for Dec 13 and 14 at the Conservation Department’s Central Office in Jefferson City. Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Nov. 29.
PRESENTATION
The Commission received staff presentations about:
- Learning Outdoor Schools
- Out-of-state wildfire fighting activities by Conservation Department workers
- The prairie chicken recovery plan
- An update on the federal farm bill
The Commission presented a special recognition award to Conservation Department retiree Floyd Dry for more than 16,000 hours of volunteer work at the Springfield radio shop.
REGULATIONS
The Commission set the opening day of the November portion of the 2008 Firearms Deer Season for Nov. 15, 2008.
ADMINISTRATION
The Commission approved staff recommendations to:
- Approve the sale of an estimated 3,312,753 board feet of timber located on Logan Creek Conservation Area in Reynolds County.
- Accept a donation of an approximately .125 acre tract of land in Franklin County as an addition to Reiker Ford Access.
- Exchange 11 acres of Pilot Knob Conservation Area in Stone County for two acres of land adjacent to Pilot Knob Conservation Area. The owner of the two-acre tract will pay the difference in value of the two tracts.
- Convey approximately 2.05 acres of the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area to Boone County for a bridge replacement over Perche Creek on Burr Oak Road, and to grant a temporary construction easement on an additional .61 acre for the duration of the construction period.
- Convey approximately .67 acre of Platte Falls Conservation Area to Platte County for roadway and drainage improvements on Sharp’s Station Road.
- Purchase 40 acres as an addition to Bushwhacker Lake Conservation Area in Vernon County.
- The Commission suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of 11 Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations and affirmed actions taken by Missouri courts suspending privileges of three Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were suspended are:

- Reinstated the sport fishing privileges of William Holcomb, of Winfield.
